Damsel in Distress

In the middle of the night
A horrid dragon gave a fright
To a maiden he began to chase around.

Then he trapped her in a room,
He thought he would be eating soon,
But she leapt through the window to the ground.

Frantically, she ran with fear
As the dragon still drew near
Into the forest, where she tried to hide.

The dragon thundered right behind her
But as he looked, he could not find her
Underneath the shadows of the night.

As she scampered through the wood,
She bumped into a knight of good,
His presence shrilly sounded by the brass

He agreed that he would help her,
Save her from this helter-skelter,
And headed off to kick the dragon's rear.

Cymbals crashed like sword on scale
The dragon fought to no avail;
The knight had won the bloody war alas

A solemn bell announced the death,
The dragon drew its final breath,
Never again to give the maiden fear.

Forever indebted, she gave her hand
In marriage to that valiant man
Who saved her from the fire-breathing beast.

Since he was married to no other,
He agreed that he would love her
Forever- only at the very least.
